Missio

Missio is the new name for the Pontifical Mission Societies. The Pope has specifically asked Missio to care for and support the younger Churches across the world until they are able to be self-sufficient. Missio is therefore the Church’s official support organisation for overseas mission, raising awareness and funds for missionary and pastoral work worldwide. The generosity of Catholics means we are able to respond in faith and love to the needs of our brothers and sisters in every mission diocese around the world.

In England and Wales Missio has four branches:

The Association for the Propagation of the Faith (APF)

Mission Together (Holy Childhood)

The Society of St Peter the Apostle (SPA)

The Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU)

The Association for the Propagation of the Faith (APF)

The Bishops of England and Wales have commissioned Missio, through the APF (Association for the Propagation of the Faith) and the Mill Hill Missionaries, to have 5-yearly Red Box and membership appeals in every parish. The APF supports all 1,069 mission dioceses of the world, showing universal solidarity with the new and emerging Churches.  Through the APF, Missio coordinates the World Mission Sunday collection enabling each Parish to reflect on its share in worldwide mission and contribute to the support of its poorest members. Our prayers and donations on World Mission Sunday help to support churches, hospitals, schools and vocations in countries where poverty is most severe.  The APF is part of the worldwide Missio network, the principal mission support organisation of the Catholic Church.
