CCRS

The CCRS (Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies) is awarded by the Board of Religious Studies on behalf of the Bishop’s Conference of England and Wales. It is recommended for any teacher who wants to teach in a Catholic school as well as those seeking to deepen their knowledge and understanding in Catholic faith and theology. Anyone wishing to be involved in Catholic education and formation will be very welcome as well as those involved in Religious Education in schools, Parish Catechesis and other ministries in the Church or indeed anyone wishing to follow the course for faith development or personal interest.

The CCRS is delivered as a two year rolling programme and requires completion of a total of eight modules: six core and two specialist modules. Four modules are offered each academic year so it is possible to complete the course within two years or up to five years as allowed by the Board of Studies.

We are now offering two CCRS sessions within the Diocese. Saturday sessions in Ellesmere Port, and Thursday sessions in Altrincham. We hope that having the two options to attend, more people will be able to complete the CCRS. The different sessions will run simultaneously, for module dates see below.

CCRS TWENTY-FIVE YEARS ON: ONE SIZE FITS ALL?

More than 20,000 adults across England and Wales have taken the course since 2000 in order to further their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. The following article analyses the importance of the CCRS and shows the lasting impact it has on our schools and parishes.

Fr Des Seddon, Chairman of the Board of Religious Studies of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, affirms the importance of the research report and says, “The recommendations will provide the Board of Studies with a way forward for the next Phase of developments for the CCRS.  I would like to express my thanks to all those who were involved in the research.”
