Bishops launch mobile phones app to encourage vocations

A new app for mobile phones has been launched to help Catholics grow in their faith and to better discern their vocations in life.

The God Calls app is the brainchild of the National Office for Vocation of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.

The designers describe it as a spiritual tool-kit that will help users to deepen their faith and grow closer to God.

They also hope that it will encourage particularly young Catholics to discern clearly what God is calling them to do.

The app is free to download on to Android or iPhone devices from and it includes such features as daily prayers, Gospel meditations and news links.

Users can also use the app to find oiut about local and national Catholic events which might be of interest to them.

Sister Elaine Penrice, a Daughter of St Paul who serves as the religious life promoter of the vocations office, said she wanted users to have easy access to the Gospel, with questions to help people reflect on how this Gospel can touch our lives”.

She said she also wanted to make the saints “known better as examples and inspirations for our lives, to help people journal so that they can reflect on their journey, and to keep in touch with events in the Church through news and Catholic events”.
