Private: Year of Faith

Pilgrimage to Holy Land

Catholics throughout the Diocese of Shrewsbury are being invited to take part in an eight-day pilgrimage of the Holy Land as part of the celebrations of the Year of Faith.

The trip will take place between 21-28 October 2013 and will be led by the Rt Rev. Mark Davies, the Bishop of Shrewsbury.

The itinerary includes visits to Mount Tabor, Nazareth and Cana, sites along the Sea of Galilee, Jerusalem, Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, the Mount of Olives, Bethlehem, Jericho, the Judean desert and the Red Sea.

Mass will be celebrated at each of the major sites of interest.

Bishop Davies said: “Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict, invites us to celebrate a Year of Faith from October 2012 until the solemnity of Christ the Kind 2013, marking the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and also the 20th anniversary of the publication of The Catechism of the Catholic Church.

“Pope Benedict wants this year to be an invitation for each of us to profess anew the faith in its fullness.

“As part of this celebration I wish to invite you to join me on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

“We will make this journey to the places of the Incarnation, birth, life, death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ so as to renew our faith together and pray for the whole diocese.”

The pilgrimage is being organised by Father David Long and the tour operator is Lightline Pilgrimages Limited.

The inclusive tour costs £1,295, covering flights, half-board accommodation in three and four star hotels, passenger and local government taxes, a tourist coach and a qualified English-speaking tour guide.
