An Introduction to Second Vatican Council: The Podcast
The Context: In the Synodal Process, Pope Francis has invited us to reflect on our part in the Church’s mission. Among the diocesan responses to this initiative, there were many requests for formation: in Scripture, for example, spirituality and the teaching of the Church. These submissions were typical: “We know we should reach out to others as witnesses to the faith, but we don’t know how!” “Could we have a mini-course on Vatican II?” People also wanted to understand what was meant by the themes Pope Francis proposed, namely: Participation, Communion, Mission.
What is being offered? Audio recordings of a conversation about the Second Vatican Council. This will be in three parts:
I. Ecumenical Councils; the Popes and Documents of Vatican II
II. The Constitution on Divine Revelation – Dei Verbum
III. The Constitution on the Church – Lumen Gentium
Handouts will enable listeners to reflect on these significant texts and their importance for today, either alone or with others.
Who’s offering this? Barbara Davies – Diocesan Coordinator for New Evangelisation and Dr Stephen Yates – Senior Mission Catechist
Who’s this for? It’s for you! Come and join a conversation which will be informative but not heavily academic. We hope it will inspire us all to understand our faith more deeply, love it more dearly and live it more truly. In this way, we will participate in the communion of the Church and in her mission in the world of today. You will find the podcasts and accompanying reading below.
