In 2026, 171 adults from 31 parishes were elected by the Bishop at Shrewsbury Cathedral for Baptism and Confirmation at Easter. Most are young adults from no religious background. Many are men. The numbers have almost doubled in three years. Something is happening, in our diocese and across the country.

"This stream of new converts is evident across our Diocese and country and indeed across the western world. It is all the more remarkable because this new generation of converts have been drawn to the Church by no special initiative on our part."

Bishop Mark Davies, Pastoral Letter for Lent 2026.

Christianity is not a code of rules or a feeling about life. It is the news that God became man, died on the cross, rose from the dead, and lives in the Catholic Church through the Eucharist. The Bishop’s lodestar phrase, repeated through every letter and homily, says it plainly: the Eucharist contains the Church’s entire spiritual wealth, Christ Himself.

You do not need to be Catholic to walk into a Catholic church. Mass is open to all. You are welcome to sit, pray, listen, and leave again, as you wish. When you are ready to talk, a priest will be there.
