Mark Davies was born in Manchester on 12 May 1959 and baptised at St Richard’s Church, Longsight. He was educated at St Anne’s High School in Stockport and at Ushaw College, Durham. Bishop Thomas Holland of Salford ordained him priest on 11 February 1984.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Shrewsbury in December 2009. He was ordained a bishop on 22 February 2010 at St Anthony’s, Wythenshawe. He has been the eleventh Bishop of Shrewsbury since 1 October that year, in succession to Bishop Brian Noble.
His episcopal motto is Nihil Sine Christo, “Nothing without Christ.” His coat of arms carries the inverted leopard’s head with fleur-de-lys of St Thomas of Hereford and the red cross of St Chad of Lichfield, the two s1aints from whose ancient sees the territory of Shrewsbury was carved.
"Let us be attentive to the reality of the Eucharist which contains the Church’s entire spiritual wealth, Christ Himself."
Bishop Mark writes to the diocese several times a year. His letters are read at every Sunday Mass and published here. Recent letters cover the surge in adult converts, the 175th anniversary, the election of Pope Leo XIV, and the elevation of Cardinal Newman to Doctor of the Church.
Bishop Mark is supported by two Vicars General, Canon Jonathan Brandon and Canon Michael Gannon, by Canon David Roberts as Episcopal Vicar for Education, and by the Curia and Board of Trustees. Together they care for the parishes, schools and ministries of the diocese.
