Cathedral to Host Two Rite of Election Celebrations as Numbers Surge

In a joyful sign of growth and renewal within the local Church, this year’s Rite of Election will be celebrated twice at the Cathedral on the First Sunday of Lent, reflecting a significant increase in the number of people preparing to be received into the Catholic Church.

The Rite of Election marks a pivotal moment in the journey of those preparing for Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at Easter. During the celebration, catechumens are formally “elected” by the Bishop, signifying the Church’s recognition of their readiness to receive the sacraments of initiation.

The schedule for the First Sunday of Lent will be:

  • 2.00 pm First Rite of Election (arrivals from 1.30 pm)
  • 3.30 pm Second Rite of Election (arrivals from 3.00 pm)

Natalie Orefice will be in direct contact with parishes to indicate pastoral area designations for each celebration.
